The royal palaces of King Ludwig II of Bavaria are famous worldwide. Foremost among them is Neuschwanstein Castle, through whose construction (1869 to 1884) and setting the king earned the nickname “Fairy Tale King.” The castle is situated high above the valley near Füssen and can be visited year-round. Also worth visiting is the Marienbrücke (Mary’s Bridge), which hangs over a gorge and offers a beautiful view of the castle.
