Top 3 Sights in Grainau

by mahr

Grainau lies at the foot of Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze. Adjacent to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the municipality counts a whole series of unique sights in Germany. Thanks to its idyllic location between the mountains and the associated mountain lakes with their unmistakable motifs, the community has been popular with holidaymakers for 150 years.

In addition to a large number of hiking and cycling trails, which show their most picturesque side especially in summer, Grainau also offers an attractive range of winter sports. Due to its proximity to the Zupitze and thus also the access to Germany's highest ski area, ski downhill skiers get their money's worth just as much as winter sports enthusiasts who want to try out the extensive cross-country ski trails.

Top 1 : Zugspitze

The Zugspitze is with 2962m Germany's highest mountain. The municipality of Grainau borders directly at the foot of this mighty massif. In addition to the ascent of the Zugspitze, which takes about eight to 10 hours for experienced tourers, there is also the comfortable possibility of cable car to the Zugspitze. The cable car, inaugurated in 2017, impresses with its panoramic gondola and overcomes the almost 2000 metres in height in 10 minutes.

Germany's highest ski resort is located on the Zugspitzplatt in winter. A total of 5 lifts are operated so that approx. 20 km of fun on the slopes can be experienced. There are also attractive routes for ski tourers, so that the ski area is suitable for beginners as well as for ski professionals.

Top 2: Eibsee

Der Berg Wank bei Farchant

The Eibsee is considered the most beautiful lake in the Bavarian Alps. Its proximity to the municipality of Grainau makes it ideal for spontaneous day trips. A leisurely walk along the well-developed hiking trails around the lake takes about 2 hours and offers a variety of breathtaking motifs due to its reflective water surface.

Top 3: Höllenklamm

In addition to a whole series of striking valleys in the municipality of Grainau, the Höllental is particularly striking. This beautifully situated valley is part of the Zugspitze massif and offers a very special excursion destination with the Höllenklamm. The Hammersbach, which is otherwise rather tranquil, swells through the ever narrower gorge, so that at the narrowest points it becomes a torrential torrent. In addition to the impressive views of the gorge, the Höllenklamm Museum offers the opportunity to find out more about the gorge.
